If your wife doesnt like you playing video games, and wants you to contribute towards the house work, just do what I do. Screw up everything you touch. Example: " Whoops, I didnt know I shouldnt put bleach in the washer with dark colored clothes." or..." I didnt smell any dirty diaper on the kid, is that why he was crying all day?" She won't want you to touch any housework type stuff after that LOL. These are just jokes people, dont think I let my kids run around in dirty diapers all day!

I feel for you brother. My gf of almost 3 years despises video games. I'm hoping that The Movies which is released this fall will change her stance a bit. But it's a two sided coin man. On one hand, once we live together again (or get married... whatever, I'm in no rush to "sign a contract," she already has my promise and devotion) I won't be able to play nearly as many games. Our previous arrangement was that Every Friday from around midnight till Saturday around noon was mine. Other mates will go out and get hammered, I don't like to drink but I game till my eyes bleed. The upside here is that as a writer and artist I lose so much time to games. Games are my biggest vice and demon and upon living with this girl again I'll be pulled away from them and I'll get more work done.

Luckily, my boyfriend was unable to unleash the gamer in me. I played a few games before, but wasn't super into them -- then he showed me FFXI (and the Taru Tarus!) and bought me a Gamecube and that was all over. Ha ha. Well, we quit FFXI - we picked up Guild Wars instead (more casual, no monthly fee! yayayay!).

The only thing is he won't do in-game marraiges HA HA. I don't care for them so much really -- honestly, in FFXI, I only wanted the in-game marraige for the items (the lilac flower for the hair, specifically).

I like that there's no ACTUAL in-game marraiges in GW.. in FFXI, it was expensive, and people wanted the items (and the lookalike items, which were worth insane amounts of money). Also, you had to get on a waiting list, pay a large sum of money for the ceremony, etc..

At least in GW, it'd be easy to run your own ceremony. The good thing too, is that you can guarantee privacy if you have a small 'reception' -- ie, you could hold the ceremony/reception at the Guild Hall, for guild members only.. or you could grab a party of 8 people and go to one of the private world locations. No random people barging in on your 'wedding'. Unless that's what you want.

My girlfriend games just as much as I do... and she has WAY more experience with this fantasy gaming. She was a DnD freak back in her youth and I'm always asking her things like, "whats the difference between Int and Wis?" when I'm reading my favourite comic, "Order of the Stick". Besides, playing GW with her is the best... no teamspeak needed 'cause her desk is beside mine.

My husband and I did this, too. We really like having characters with the same last name.

My advice that has come from my Pastor who my wife and I turn to ( Wife In RL ) is if you do what you need to do in RL and everything is taken care, you are not neglecting your family or your work, then its time for you and you can do what ever you want as long as its not immoral, illegal on nonbiblical (if not religious discount the last)

It has made my gaming much better so long as i do my part at home. And my wife was an EQ widow for over two years already

Post RW Marraige and Gaming

I, Like Darkest Dawn, have had to temper the time I spend gaming, in deference for my wife's misunderstanding (almost abhorrence) of the devestating attraction of building an alter-ego and advancing through a fantasy realm in companionship of others' alter-egos. If your spouse (or prospective spouse) has an aversion to computer or console gaming, you need to look at priorities.

What is the most important to you? Is it gaming, or is it the person that you are (or think you are) in love with, and with whom you want to spend the rest of your life.

I am 62 and have been married to the same, lovely, bride for 42 years. I try to accomplish my gaming during the times that she is deeply engrossed in an activity with which she is fond (i.e. the 9:00 PM movie on "Lifetime" channel). When there are those times that she is feeling neglected, I try to curtail my gaming and devote some quality time for just her.

We have learned, that for a marriage to succeed (in the RW), it takes commitment. When you make a "vow", you should be commited to honorably keep that vow. Most marraiges have both individuals say the vow, to the effect, "in sickness and health, through good times and bad, forsaking all others, until death do you part..."

Don't take the vow, if you have absolutely NO intentions of keeping it. Marriage is work, not just all sex and lovingness. It is two, distinct personalities with two, differing viewpoints and feelings on and about almost everything, trying to live as a single entity.

It is work! But the rewards, are manifold and bounteous.

Wow! You might not have asked for a sermon, but there it is!

Heh yea Im with some of you. My wife doesnt like the gaming to much but she knows thats what I like to do, hell it could be alot worse, I don't neglect her or my baby daughter, and I could be out drinking and partying it up like some dad's I know. As long as I dont abuse my gaming then she's cool. We have set up rules though, I can only play after 9pm or when she goes to work and the baby is asleep. So for me its not a bad deal and actually I kind of like it, it just means during the day I actually get some sun and interaction with real people, like at the park or the beach or something to that sort lol...well gluck with you getting married. Seriously though you should work out some kind of deal with your GF (soon to be wife) but whatever you do pay attention to her and she wont mind so much that you play video games =)

Wow, sorry to say i feel sorry for anyone whos getting married to an anti-gamer, wether you're male or female. My fiance is as big of a gamer as me, I doubt i could be in a long term relationship with someone who wasnt, its just too much of a strain not to have your biggest enjoyment/hobby in common.

But now i sorely need to pickup another computer LOL! Instead of "Get off that damn computer you dont pay attention to me!" I hear "Babe... When you're done that mission can i play?"

That's me and my husband Zief. We often sit next to each other going "NO! Shoot that one! What are you doing?!?!?" while waiting for our turn to play. He's constantly trying to tell me how to play El/Mo. He thinks that since he is a R/E he knows everything about being an elementalist. Never mind the fact that he has always played a bowslinger in every single game we've ever had, and I'm the one who has always played a caster.

Reading all these posts on male gamer's and how they compromise with their wives really makes me feel better about the whole gaming situation. I've seen some guys who treat their girl friends very poorly once they find a really cool game, but I like to see how some of you have it figured out.

I've been trying to game with my guy friends for a while now, but every game I try I can't stay hooked on. I love the game play and the killing stuff for about a week and then I get bored to tears. I don't want to turn in to another one of those evil women who hates games... Does anyone have a game to recommend to me? Guild wars has been fun so far, but just in case it doesn't work out...

Well my wife and I don't have a baby but my wife is hardly neglected. However she did set up the rule "we should try and be off our computers by 8pm" which really translated for you non-married folk is "you should be off the computer by 8pm." We both work during the day, she gets done at 5pm, I get done at 6pm. She starts work at 8am and I start work at 9am. So basicly I try and work around various stuff going on in our lives as she is not a gamer unless you can set her on god mode and shove her off in one direction to blow $hit up lol.

I work part days saturday and am off monday. So monday is my GW day where I get up after she goes to work and sit there for hours hehe.

Its all about compromise.
